Our new volunteers at the memorial introduce themselves!
We asked them to introduce themselves:
"Hi, I'm Philipp, 19 years old and the new FSJ volunteer at the memorial. I am from Hamburg and wanted to use this year after my A-levels to gain some orientation and experience, which is why I wanted to do an FSJ. As I have been interested in history for a long time, I came across the position at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. I'm looking forward to the year ahead!"
"Hello, my name is Gabriel and I am volunteering this year at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. I’m 24 years old and come from the United States. Originally, I lived near the city of Detroit in the state of Michigan. I earned my Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and German at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I also participated in an exchange year at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich as a part of my studies. I’m looking forward to working with the public relations team and improving my skills using social media."
"Hi! My name is Ulyana! I am 23 years old and was born in Russia. I studied English and German as a teaching degree in Volgograd and later began a Master's program in Educational Design in Moscow. This year, I am working in the archive, where I research history, respond to requests for locating detainees, and translate reports of Soviet captives. What is especially important to me is finding my own relative, who was imprisoned in a concentration camp during World War II but never revealed which camp exactly. I wish peace to everyone and am very happy to be part of the memorial."
