New volunteers at the Neuengamme concentration camp memorial
Hello ! My name is Stephanie, and I’m the new ASF volunteer. I will be doing my service here in Neuengamme until the end of August 2023. I’m from Cork in Ireland and am twenty-three years old. I did my bachelor’s degree in French and German at the University of Cork, and I worked a lot with trauma and memory in both German and French film and literature. I therefore decided to do my volunteer service at a memorial site, as a way of gaining more practical experience. I would like to continue my studies in memory and literature after my service, in France as well as in Germany. For the moment however I am very happy to be here and to have the opportunity to contribute to a lot of exciting projects. Moreover I am also looking forward to discovering archive work, giving tours and social media work. But before that, I need to study a lot !
Hello, I’m Nino and I’m 19 years old. I am the new volunteer with FSJ, a volunteering programme in social and cultural work. I am from Hamburg and I didn’t want to study this year after secondary school, which is why I decided to do a voluntary service for FSJ. I thought of the Neuengamme memorial site because I am interested in history and I could see myself studying something related to this. Moreover I would like to learn more about this memorial site and how memory, as well as memory education, work in such a place. I am looking forward to the coming year and for all the experiences I have yet to live !
